The third edition of the We Art Water Film Festival gives the starting signal with the presentation of its distinguished jury

The We Are Water Foundation has given the starting signal for the third edition of the We Art Water Film Festival with the presentation of the jury and other news during the San Sebastian International Film Festival. Most of the members of the jury, who will choose the winners in the different categories, attended the event.

Manuela Velasco, renowned movie and TV actress, Leticia Dolera, actress and filmmaker; Marc Clotet, movie, TV and currently also stage actor;Albert Solé, documentary director; RocíoGarcía, journalist with El País specialised in cinema; Carlos Jiménez Renjifo, Desk Officer of UNRIC (United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe) ;and Xavier Torras, director of the We Are Water Foundation, have explained the latest news on the contestin an event at the Kursaal.The curator of the festival, the filmmaker and member of the Board of the Spanish Academy of the Film Arts and Sciences, Judith Colell, also attended this event.Other members of the jury are the filmmaker Daniel Sánchez Arévalo; the filmmaker and winner of an Oscar, Juan Campanella and Jordi Folgado, Director of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation.

This edition presents a few novelties, among them the definition of the categories: micro-fiction, micro-documentaryand micro-animation. Another important novelty is the prize as, after becoming an internationally renowned short film contest, 3,000 Euros will be awarded to the winner in each category. The audience following the festival will also be able to decide who wins the 1,000 Euros corresponding to the Audience Award.

The official registration period of the contest starts on the 2nd October, and it can be carried out through the official webpage (www.wearewater.org) until the 26th February 2016. The short films need to be related to the theme: “water and sanitation”.

Xavier Torras, Director of the We Are Water Foundation, has expressed that “it is a great satisfaction to be able to present the third edition of the We Art Water Film Festival in such an iconic place as the Kursaal in San Sebastian during its international film festival. We believe that with this contest we will be able to raise awareness of the global water and sanitation problem.It is also a way to promote the talent of those people with a clear social involvement.”

The actress and filmmaker Leticia Dolera has explained that "cinema is an awareness-raising and social change tool." Manuela Velasco has also commented that this competition "is an opportunity for those young people who are learning and have a certain awareness of the environment." The actress has added that "we can reach a greater audience through the audiovisual world, thus empathising with the importance of sanitation, a matter we should be more aware of."
